Melbourne

Went to Melbourne last weekend for 4 days. We stayed at a hostel downtown with a bunch of crazy people runnin around. It was actually pretty cool though because the hostel had its own bar and lounge room where everyone wold hang out. Those places are weird because they just provide you with everything you need, but you have to do it all yourself. For example; for food they just had a big kitchen where you would buy food at the grocery store and then cook it yourself and do your own dishes. ha. They only cost $20 a night though. However, I did end up with an eye sty infection after staying there.

One morning I went to the bathroom and there was someone snoring in the stall next to me. ha. I just thought they were drunk. But then there was some idiot guy talking bad things about the US when we were watching TV the next day. I was about to say something because I'd also been drinking for a little bit, but I didn't. Later that night I was in the bathroom again and heard the snoring coming from the same place. I knew this was no coincidence that someone would be passed out drunk in the same place on the bathroom floor two nights in a row, so I looked over to see who it was. Sure enough it was that idiot who had just been rippin on the States. He had just been moochin off a hostel, sleeping on their bathroom floor for who knows how long. haha.

Anyways, Melbourne is awesome. It's not as beautiful as Sydney but its's a lot more laid back there are all these little ally ways you can find with a bunch of hidden restaurants and shops. And of course it took us FOREVER to find somewhere to eat because the others were tight asses and we couldn't spend $15-20 for dinner at any one of the awesome restaurants I saw. These people are a different breed of human. I've never met anyone whos favorite sport is bowling and doesn't drink. Anywho, we went to the play Wicked which was actually amazing, ha, Lauren... And we went to a game that we thought was a Aussie Rules Football game but it ended up being a soccer game. Someone ended up lighting off a smoke bomb in the middle of the crowd right next to us. ha. It was still fun though. Then we went on this bus tour around Melbourne and got to see penguins running up the beach at night after they were out at sea. I met some pretty cool people on that trip. One guy named Rain from Scotland who was also doing an internship, 3 girls from Ireland who had some crazy accents who were backpacking through AUS for 6 weeks and a girl from Brisbane and her friend who was visiting from ATL, GA.

On the plane ride back we flew JetStar and I was literally smashed in the very back corner of the jet with no window. I might as well have been luggage. It's a whole other experience flying when your in the very back and you can't see what's going on. I don't recommend it.

Night Out

Wellll, the video editor Tim took me out to the bar last night. He said we were goin to someones house here in the Uni Village first to pregame and it ended up being one of the other interns houses. ha. what are the chances. That other intern lucked out cause his roommates are sweet and like to party. I think I'll ask him to switch houses with me ha. Anyways we were drinkin some cheap wine and that got a lil outta hand. Next thing I know I'm at the friggin bar drinkin some dark ass beer. I don't even remember what time we got home but it was pretty damn late and I had to get up at 6:30 to make it to work. Unfortunately when my alarm went off I just hit it and turned it off telling myself I was only gonna sleep for 5 more mins. Well, as you can probably guess, I awoke to find I'd dozed off for about 40 mins and missed the train that gets me to work on time. haha. I got ready as fast as I could, definately still drunk from the previous night and made it to work just a hair under 30 mins late. Fortunately my supervisor wasn't there today. Last night was heaps of fun. I found out that Justine, the hot chick I thought was a model, actualy works right next door to us and now I see here everyday so that is definately a plus. The interns and I have been planning on going to some places while we're on this side of the world. We were thinkin New Zeland, Melbourne and maybe Cairns depending on budget limitations. Should be sweet.

KINGS CROSS!!!

This post is dedicated to Matt Kehl who keeps bugging me about posting something new. Well, last night the other guy Intern and I went out to Kings Cross, which is sort of the Red Light District of Sydney where everyone goes and parties. On the way there we took the train. When we got on the train it reeked of booze. There were about 10 ausie rugbee players slammin beer on the lower level of the train, which is definately illegal. haha. I didn't know they made mixed jim beam/coke cans until I saw those guys chugging them. They were definately the stereotypical, loud as hell, swearing like crazy crew of ausies you might expect. It was awesome and we knew they had to be going to the same place we were headed. When we got there we saw a strip club every other building and the buildings in between the strip clubs were crazy bars. We started out at a sports bar where the Australian rugbee team was on TV. Of course those guys were there. ha. A $12 double G&T and a few beers later we left and bar hopped to a few other bars. Since the other dude tried a beer a few nights ago and only finished about half I suggested he try a smirnoff ice. A lot of the bars that looked really sweet had lines too long to wait for and I only wanted to drink since I haven't had a lot of chances here yet. There were people just walking around on the sidewalks just drinking beer and none of the cops cared. ha. Those damn guys standing at the front of every strip club kept saying "BOYS, BOYSS wanna see some girls??" haha some even came from across the street to ask us. One time I had my hand in my pocket and the dude grabbed my arm and pulled my hand out and gave me a card. haha. i just dropped it. I guess we looked like we were that desperate. I got asked twice if I had any ecstacy for sale ha. Once by a guy who already looked like he'd had enough. Then on the way back all the train stations were closed because it was so late so we took the bus. We were on about 30 mins and just did a huge loop to end up back in the same spot cause we got on the wrong one. ha. Finally after 2 hours and a couple busses later we made it home. Peace

Half way through first week

It's Wednesday morning right now and it's pouring outside. That would not be a complete problem except for the fact I don't own an umbrella and it's about a 30 minute walk to the train. haha. Right now at work I'm working on a promotion package for the Slam Volleyball annual festival here in Australia. It's something that Andrew (the boss) started 10 years ago and it's grown into something pretty big. www.slamvolleyball.com if you wanna check it out. I met a dood yesterday that was in the office working on the video for the website. Apparently he used to work for Australias MTV and he went to school where I'm staying. He said he knows a lot of people around here so it looks like I may have found a drinking buddy. Hopefully he knows a lot of hot chicks too. ha.

Bonza Bike Tour

We went on a bike tour today at about 8:45 in da mornin.......... It turned out to be really sweet though. It took us about 4 hours total. Half way through we stopped at one of the oldest pubs in Australia to have a beer. Apparently the two other interns dont drink. The girl said she had never had a beer, but she did have a sip of her dads once. I think I'm in need of some serious drinkin buddies.

Interview

What a great start to the day... First off, its hard as hell to find coffee cause all these aussies drink tea. then my electric shaver blew up when i was only half way done shaving because of the different voltages that i was unaware of. Then i didn't have any shaving cream cause they took it at the airport so i raw dogged it and it hurt like hell. Then i couldnt get my tie to tie right. and thennn i find out that the suit jackets i just bought are too big. haha FML!!! Then I go to my interview and walk in to a scene that is strait outta the hills. At least 5 girls in one room just sitting at their computer desks wearing all designer clothes just staring at me in my business atire. haha The guy seems pretty cool tho but he said I didn't need to dress up, just be casual. That would have been nice to know before we went out and bought all these new business clothes and didn't bring anything casual to wear to work..........

First Day

Finally made it here after a total of 18 hrs on the three planes. My plane from chi to san francisco came in about 45 minutes late and left me with about 10 minutes to find my next plane in the san francisco airport. As soon as i got on my plane to go to sydney they shut the doors behind me. Just made it. Then it was a 13 hr flight from cali to sydney. When I got here it took me a while to find Catherine who is the international intern director. There was supposed to be someone else that we were meeting, a kid named drew, who was also supposedly on my flight. After about an hour of waiting for him we peaced. ha. I got thrown into a house with 4 people who have been living together for a while and i duess didn't even know i was coming. haha. I met 2. Ones name is Luke and the other is Sid, or something like that.
